The Downs above Bevendean

The Downs above Lower Bevendean were Meadowland famous for its Butterflies. Sheep grazed the Downs before the Second World War. Crops were only grown on the better ground in the valleys.
The Downs were ploughed up during the Second World War to grow food for people.
Today only a few fields above Lower Bevendean are Meadowland.
The path (old cart Track) from Lower Bevendean Farm to Falmer and Lewes divides on the Downs before the Falmer Road. At this point there is a low mound in the ground which the Ranger said was a barrow. (Grid Ref: TQ 347,074)
Just before the path (old cart Track) from Lower Bevendean Farm to Falmer and Lewes divides on the Downs before the Falmer Road there was a building. (Grid Ref: TQ 346,073)
Information from a Park Ranger who was putting up fencing on the Downs above Bevendean.
