Hazelgrove Care Home in Heath Hill Avenue, Bevendean

Heather Lodge now known as Hazelgrove
On the 2nd October 1962 a contract was signed by G. Comber & Co. Ltd to erection a home for the blind and infirm elderly to be known as "Heather Lodge" in Heath Hill Avenue at Lower Bevendean.
The contract for the building work was for £60,400.

By the 20 November 1963 the interior of ‘Heather Lodge’ had been completed. Arrangements were then put in hand to transfer the residents from ‘Heron’s Court’ and ‘Devonia’ to Heather Lodge starting on Monday, 25th November, 1963.

The name was changed from Heather Lodge to Hazelgrove about the year 2010. The new name was registered by the Care Quality Commission on 26 January 2011.
Today Hazelgrove Nursing Home is a thirty-seven capacity Brighton service for old age-related care needs and it also specialises in dealing with people with mental health needs.
In August 2023 work started on building an extension at the front of the dining room at Hazelgrove. The work was completed in January 2024, although there is still some landscaping to be done in the spring.
