
Moulsecoomb - Bevendean History Project
Development of the Moulsecoomb estate

On
the 12 October 1925 Brighton Corporation purchased 46 acres of land
from the Chichester Estates Company known as Hodshrove in the Parish of
Falmer in the County of Sussex as shown in the plan below. The North
Moulsecoomb estate of 390 houses was developed to a higher density than
South Moulsecoomb.

The land consisted of Hodshrove Meadow, which is where Moulsecoomb
Primary School was built and the Beershop field where the North
Moulsecoomb Housing Estate was built.
Barcombe, Chailey, Newick and Ringmer Roads were built between 1925 and 1929 on the land north of the railway line and south of the Lewes Road.
