Development of the Moulsecoomb estate

The East Moulsecoomb Estate
The first part of the East Moulsecoomb estate with the roads from
Widdicombe Way to Bevendean Crescent was developed between 1930 and
1934 on land already owned by the Brighton Corporation, purchased from
the Estate of Steyning Beard in 1913.
Higher Bevendean
The area around Bevendean Crescent has always been known as Higher Bevendean.
The East Moulsecoomb Estate continued
On the 11th December 1935 Brighton Corporation purchased Hodshrove
Farm, Hog Plantation and Cold Dean Nursery from the Chichester Estates
Company. The East Moulsecoomb housing estate from Hodshrove Road and
Birdham Road to Moulsecoomb Way was built by the corporation on part of
a 300 acre estate, which was purchased in December 1935 and was opened
in 1937.
