On checking building plans held at the Keep from 1939 to 1945 a plan for the construction of linked Anderson shelters was found.
The plan below, dated 18 April 1942, shows the proposed site for linked Anderson shelters near Bevendean Crescent.
A number of people have responded to the website saying that they remember playing in the shelters after the war before they were demolished.
The following information was also sent to the website.
“Having consulted with a couple of aged sages from the Upper Bevendean area we're pretty certain that these were the huts used by the German and Italian P.o.W's during the building of the "Prefabs".
As kids we used to sit up on the hill and watch the work going on.
Interestingly one of the Germans married a local girl and lived in Upper Bevendean Avenue.”

Plan for the construction of linked Anderson shelters dated February 1942.

Proposed site for "Linked-Anderson" Shelters east of Bevendean Crescent to accommodate up to 400 people.

Proposed site for "Linked-Anderson" Shelters for East Moulsecombe to accommodate up to 500 people.
