Jude Jones Estate Manager to Earls of Chichester

The churchyard contains a gravestone to Jude Jones.
He was the designated carpenter and estate foreman of the Earls of Chichester and also an active member of the church in the 19th century.
He designed and constructed all the wooden fixtures in Stanmer Church.

Also, his widow Elizabeth Anne born 4th February 1833.
Died 16th December 1916'.

Jude Jones was baptised in Stanmer Church on 14 Jan 1844. His parents were Thomas and Mary Jones.
The 1881 Census records Jude as living in the Lodges at the entrance to Stanmer Park. His wife was Elizabeth Ann Jones and his occupation was recorded as a Carpenter. He has two sons and one daughter.
The 1911 Census entry for Jude Jones gives the following information gives his age as 67. He was living at No. 17 Stanmer Village, Stanmer, Near Lewes, Sussex. He was employed as the Estate Foreman and Carpenter.
His wife was Elizabeth Ann Jones aged 77 and was born in Arnesby, Leicestershire, England.
Jude married Elizabeth Ann Stevens in the last quarter of 1865, in the registration district of Marylebone in London.
Jude died at Stanmer on died 17 April 1914 and probate was granted at Lewes on 6 July 1914 to Elizabeth Ann Jones his widow. He left effects to the value of £172.
