Newspaper Articles for St Andrews Church 1958

The above photograph is of the new church hall which has been built to conform with the design of St. Andrew's Church, Moulsecombe. The hall consists of a large auditorium, a stage, with green rooms on either side, committee rooms, and a refreshment room.
It replaces the original pre-fabricated church, which was later used as a church hall when the new church was built in 1934. The building of the new hall was commenced in July last year, and the official opening will be performed this afternoon by the Bishop of Lewes, the Right Rev. G. H. Warde, who will be accompanied by the Archdeacon of Lewes, the Venerable J. H. L. Morrell, and the Vicar, the Rev. W R. Newton.
At the opening ceremony members of all the church organisations will be present. Tea will be served afterwards, and in the evening the first play to be presented from the stage will be by the Brighton and Hove Repertory Company, entitled “Crown Darby.”

The Bishop said that there are those who do not seem to realise there is a lighter side of such as might be enjoyed in such a fine hall as he had dedicated.
“I fear,” he said, "that there are far too many people in this country today who seem to think that just because they have cast their lot in with the Church of God, they must mark themselves off from the ordinary delights of life.”
He was happy to say this was not the case with the parishioners of St. Andrews.
The new hall was a very lovely building and he congratulated all those who participated in its erection.

The Bishop was assisted at the service by the Vicar of the parish (the Rev. W. R. Newton) the assistant priests, the Revs. I. W. Smith and K. Chapman.
Also on the Stage of the fluorescent-lighted hall were the Vicars Warden (Mr R. H. Bean) and the People’s Warden (Mr F. G. Carter). Behind them stood the men and boys of St. Andrews choir.
Work on the new hall started last year and on August 29, the Mayor of Brighton (Alderman Charles Tyson) laid the foundation stone. Since that time the parishioners have been busily engaged in collecting the money needed for the hall's construction.
All that is now needed is money for extra items and finishing touches. About £1,000 is required for these purposes.
