New Sculpture at One Moulsecoomb Way

The
builders of the student accommodation at One Moulsecoomb Way decided to
have a sculpture installed to accompany the 380-bed student housing
block in Moulsecoomb Way.
The sculpture called, “One Moulsecoomb”, was commissioned by McLaren Property developers and including the names of 560 people from the Moulsecoomb area.
The leaflet shown below was produced and distributed in the local area asking people to submit names to be included in the sculpture.

The steel art sculpture was designed by Fiveways artist, Bruce Williams and was unveiled in June 2022.
The names of Moulsecoomb residents were cut out of steel panels and welded to support structures.
Mr Williams said that the idea came from the address of the building which is “One Moulsecoomb Way”.
He liked the lattice with the names side by side like the people living in Moulsecoomb.
Mr Williams has used a variety of typefaces, handwriting and boldness for each of the names.
To collect the names, Mr Williams visited community hotspots, including the Moulsecoomb boxing gym, The Bevy, and Moulsecoomb Community Market and The Keep.
The material used is corten steel which will develop a protective layer of orange rust as it weathers.
Mr Williams worked with Cirrus Laser in Burgess Hill and Weldtec Welding Services in Small Dole to help bring the sculpture to life.
