The Bates Estate New Flats built in the 21st Century
In February 2016 plans were unveiled by Brighton and Hove City
Council to build 27 flats on the site of the former Selsfield Drive
housing office and garages off Lewes Road.
By September 2018 the proposal had been amended to the building of 30 flats in an eight-storey block in Selsfield Drive, Moulsecoomb.

On the 1st October 2020 the Brighton and Hove Council website reported that 30 new council homes had been completed early on the Bates Estate.
The block of flats has been named Hawkridge Court. It consists of 14 one-bedroom and 16 two-bedroom flats with two having wheelchair access.
The flats are being let to people on the council’s housing register and residents will begin moving in this autumn.
The homes were completed five weeks ahead of schedule, despite the challenges posed by Covid-19.
Facilities include cycle storage and a small garden has been provided for residents and visitors, with wildflower planting and raised beds.
